Incentives & Subsidies

Federal Incentives

The Federal government has recently made changes to the Internal Revenue Code, which can benefit employers and employees who participate in vanpooling. These changes, commonly referred to as Commuter Choice, allow employers to offer a tax-free fringe benefit to employees who vanpool to work. The benefit is $105/month! For more information on how vanpooling with us can help you take advantage of this Commuter Choice initiative visit our Commuter Bucks page.

Local and State Subsidies

In addition to the Federal Governments Commuter Choice initiative, several States and local municipalities provide financial incentives and/or support services to promote vanpooling because it makes so much sense.

Here are just a few examples:

Phoenix, Arizona
In Phoenix, VPSI provides vanpool management and related services to the commuters of Maricopa County on behalf of the Regional Public Transportation Authority (RPTA). The RPTA subsidizes over 1/3 of the total cost of vanpooling making it a very attractive alternative to driving alone. The region also provides support through the construction of HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) lanes and Park and Ride lots across the county.

Hawaii
Vanpooling is supported statewide by the Department of Transportation (DOT). On the island of Oahu, the DOT's support has lead to the development of flat-rate fares. Any seat, on any route is just $50. Commuters know that Vanpool Hawaii is the only way to go!

Houston, Texas
The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) and the Houston-Galveston Area Council (HGAC) have teamed up to encourage vanpooling by providing a monthly subsidy of $35 for each vanpool passenger. Passengers in vanpools formed throughout Harris, Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Liberty, Montgomery and Waller counties are eligible for the vanpool subsidy program. The region also provides support through the use of HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) lanes and Park and Ride lots.

Brevard County, Florida
Vanpoolers in the Space Coast Area Transit district ride in vehicles owned by the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners! As a result, participants share only in the operating cost of the vanpool making vanpooling in Brevard County one of the best deals going for vanpoolers across the country.

Las Vegas, Nevada
The Clark County Regional Transportation (RTC) commission knows a sure thing when the see one! They offer a monthly incentive of $350 to qualifying vanpool groups in and around Clark County. In addition, the RTC provides a Guaranteed Ride Home program to rideshare participants.

South Florida Vanpool Program
In south Florida, the local Miami - Dade County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and South Florida Commuter Services (SCFS) have teamed up to provide vanpoolers an incredible deal. The program is open to anyone commuting from or into Dade County, and eligible vanpool groups receive a $400 incentive toward their monthly vanpool rate.
